No matter how old our children get, they will always feel like our children. And we will forever look out for their well-being and safety. This is especially true when our children begin to drive. This commercial showed parents how that feels and it struck a chord. The talent search was difficult until the casting agent said they knew a real family that fit the specs: dad, teen and young daughter. We took a chance. At the moment of filming, we saw the natural chemistry between the father and young daughter and we threw away the script. We pulled the dad aside and said, “Imagine she’s about to drive without you. What would you tell her?” What unfolded became an Emmy-nominated commercial that was voted one of Time magazine’s Top 10 commercials and was championed by Ray LaHood, the then-Secretary of the U.S. Department of Transportation.
